Carrie Underwood, American Idol winner and country music superstar, certainly had a wonderful year in 2009. The multi-platinum album-selling Underwood

 won a sack full of awards, hosted her own television show, Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special, and became engaged to NHL hockey player, Mike Fisher. Underwood is one country music entertainer to watch in 2010 as her career and wedding unfold!

Before Fame
Raised in Checotah, Oklahoma, Carrie Marie Underwood was blessed with beauty and brains. She graduated magna cum laude from Northeastern State University with a bachelor's degree in mass communications and competed in numerous beauty contests, winning the Miss NSU runner-up position. Underwood used her gift of music to perform in talent shows, church and other events in her home town. After a record deal fell through in 1996, Underwood would have the chance to show the world that she had skills by way of American Idol in 2004.

And the Award Goes To . . .
After winning American Idol, Underwood began her musical career with a thunderous boom. Her first album, Some Hearts, was certified septuple platinum. The second album, Carnival Ride, released in 2007, went double platinum and begat prestigious awards in 2008 and 2009.

Underwood's list of 2009 awards is a hefty one. On the People's Choice Awards in January, 2009, Underwood won Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Country Song for Last Name from Carnival Ride. During the People's Choice Awards, People Magazine and the People's Choice Awards formed a new trophy. Called Favorite Star 35 and Under, this new accolade was designed especially for Underwood.
